Pumpkin Carving Contest

It’s that time of year again when the Great Pumpkin comes to St Michaels. We wish to thank you in advance for making our contest successful again this year. The contest is Saturday, October 28, 2006.

The event will take place in the St. Lukes Church Hall. Carving will begin at 9:00 a.m. and must be completed by 1:00 p.m. During this time, the building will be open to the public. At 1:00 p.m., the building will be closed for judging and will reopen immediately following judging, and awards will be presented to the winning carvers. The pumpkins will remain on display until 9:00 p.m. and will then be moved to the businesses that sponsored them.

Following are the categories for this year’s contest. There will be a first, second and third place winner in each of the following categories:

Overall- the best pumpkin regardless of category. These are the money winners!

Judge’s choice -After the overall choices are made, each judge will pick his or her favorite.

Best-dressed-Show your talent for using additional items to” dress” your pumpkin. Note that anything you use will stay with the pumpkin and will not be returned to you.

Most original- Anything goes in this category.

Traditional-the best rendition of a Jack-o-Lantern

Scariest-You know what to do!

Funniest-self-explanatory- this is where you end up if your plan goes awry.

Prettiest- not an easy task with a 100 pound pumpkin

Contest of champions-If you won Overall category last year, this is your category this year. You must sit out one year of competition. Each returning champion will receive a special prize.

People’s choice- the public will be given the opportunity to cast votes for their favorites.
