Love Italian wine? Join us for this immersion into the world of Italian wine as we explore Italian Native Grapes together. over a special wine & food pairing lunch prepared by Chef Dawn. Our wine partner for this session is Doria Wines. Doria only imports wines from very small production "microwineries" and the wines you will be tasting have very limited production and availability in the USA. This will be an interactive educational and fun seated experience in our Trattoria Simpatico and will continue monthly! You can sign up for this session or the series.
So if you are interested in learning more about Italian native grapes, the wine regions as well as food pairings and more, this is the perfect Wine Educational Program for you. You will receive:
15% discount on wines tasted during the wine & food pairing lunch
A Simpatico Wine Glass (Stemless)
Includes Food Pairing recipes
Special discounts for the life of the program for the wines while the inventory is available
40% discount on "Italian Wine" book, a wonderful region by region easy to understand book on the grapes gown in all 20 regions and so much more information, a must have reference book
For our third session of our Native Grape Program, we will be tasting the following:
ORZAN IVALDO VAL DI MIEÇ 2023
Italian Region: Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Grape Variety: 100% Ribolla Gialla
Yearly Production: 2,000 bottles
We had never had this grape before meeting Doria, and now it has become one of our favorite whites in the shop. A very limited production wine, we think you will add it to your Fav list too! A fresh and savory skin-contact white, perfect with seafood appetizers, butternut squash risotto, and white meats.
DI BARRÒ TORRETTE SUPÉRIEUR 2023
Italian Region: Valle d’Aosta
Grape Variety: 90% Petit Rouge / 10% Valle d’Aosta varieties
Yearly Production: 1,800 bottles
Another unique producer, creating fantastic limited production special wines. Again with this wine, customers who have tasted it in past special shop tasting events have loved it. We have managed to always have it in limited amounts, and even purchased the last of a past vintage that Doria had to ensure availability as best we could until it was gone. Fresh and intense, it blends fruity and floral aromas with elegant notes of over ripeness, offering a harmonious balance that invites another sip.
DI PIETRO QUASI OTTOBRE 2021
Italian Region: Campania
Grape Variety: 100% Aglianico
Yearly Production: 5,800 bottles
This small producer creates amazing wines with this famous everyday red grape of Campania. If you are a Cabernet Sauvignon fan, you will love this wine. Elegant, persistent, and well-structured with refined tannins, yet easy to drink, especially when paired with pasta in meat sauce, stews, aged cheeses, or roasts.
Cristina Doria and Marco Doria, brother and sister team, are the dynamic co-owners of Doria Wines, importers of exclusively microwinery wines. They focus only on vineyards in Italy that are microwineries with very limited production native grapes only, all family owned and produced, hand picked grapes and all are new to the US market when Doria imports them. Marco and Cristina are from Torino, Italy, though Cristina lives in Maryland now.
